University of Massachusetts, Boston
Our next event will be held on the campus of the University of Massachusetts, Boston and is sponsored by the Department of Environmental, Earth and Ocean Sciences. This is our first multi-campus event with the participation of the Northeastern University and Tufts University. All three universities will be showing the film A Civil Action during the week leading up to Let?s Talk About Water event, which concerned a lawsuit on contaminated drinking water in Woburn, MA. The lead lawyer was Jan Schlichtmann, played by John Travolta in the movie.
At the Saturday event, the film FLOW will be shown at 10 am, followed by lunch (provided) and then a panel discussion to explore issues raised in both films. We are pleased that Mr. Schlichtmann will make some remarks to open the panel discussion and then serve as a panel member. Other panelists are:
- Richard Vogel, professor in the Dept. of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Tufts University and Director of the Water: Systems, Science, and Society program
- Ferdi Hellweger, Associate Professor in the Dept of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Northeastern University and with Northeastern?s Center for Urban Envrionmental Studies
